NEW YORK ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM LAUNCHED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ISCP! Artadia is very pleased to announce the launch of an Artist-in-Residence program that will bring one Artadia Awardee from each of its program cities to New York for 3-month residencies at the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Three internally prominent jurors—Adam Weinberg (Director of The Whitney Museum of American Art); Jean Shin (artist), and Kristine Siegel (Program Director of the International Studio & Curatorial Program)—selected the four artists-in-residence following an in-depth review of 45 applications from Artadia Awardees in each program city (Boston, Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco Bay Area). These residencies are a groundbreaking addition to Artadia’s program and the first of its kind in New York for US-based visual artists. “The work submitted to the first Artadia artists-in-residence program is a testimony to the vibrancy of American contemporary art,” said jury member Adam Weinberg. “Artadia and ISCP are providing a critical service to artists, enabling them to have greater access to their peers as well as key critics and curators.” ARTADIA NEW YORK ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE 2009 Angelina Gualdoni (Artadia Awardee 2001 Chicago)
Josh Greene (Artadia Awardee 2001 San Francisco) Mary Ellen Strom (Artadia Awardee 2007 Boston)
The application was open to all past Artadia Awardees. The Artadia artists-in-residence will have access to a studio at the ISCP, participate in all ISCP programs, and receive a housing stipend, a materials and production stipend, a per diem, and round trip travel to New York. ISCP (www.iscp-nyc.org) has 26 studios with an annual participation of approximately 75 artists and five curators from all corners of the globe. The Artadia residencies are designed to seamlessly integrate with the ISCP program including studio space, guest critic visits, field trips, public exposure through the bi-annual Open Studio program, and exhibition opportunities with co-hosts in the New York City area. This program is made possible by a lead grant from the National Endowment for the Art and the generous support of numerous individuals. To support these artists or learn more about the program, please contact us at info@artadia.org. Studio visits will be hosted throughout the residencies. Dates will be published this spring.

About Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue Artadia was founded in 1997 as The ArtCouncil, by investment banker and art collector Christopher E. Vroom as a response to the demise of the National Endowment for the Arts' artist fellowships. The first awards were given in San Francisco, where Vroom was living at the time. Chicago was added as a program city in 2001. In 2003, Artadia added Houston to its roster, Artadia launched a Boston program in 2007, and Atlanta in 2009. Once Artadia commits to a community, it returns every other year to run its awards programs and, on the off years, it co-sponsors a public program with a local institution. Started as an individual's philanthropy, Artadia is now expanding its base of support by recruiting art patrons from across the United States to join its giving circle and board of directors which provides governance and covers administrative costs. Artadia has been based in New York City since late 2002. Artadia Awards are determined through a jury process that employs nationally prominent curators, artists, and critics. Artadia partners with local foundations and individuals in the host cities to raise funds that go directly to artists in that community. Artadia matches those contributions by providing the funds that administer the program. Once an artist receives an Artadia Award, he or she becomes part of a national network of support forever. Since its founding, Artadia has awarded over $2.0 million to more than 200 artists in participating cities. Artadia also presents events and programming in New York and Miami which are intended not only to demonstrate the tremendous creativity in partner communities, but also facilitate exchange and dialogue nationwide.
